Ok so for this tutorial you will need a PC or Mac with speakers and the beat making software DubTurbo. You may be able to use this tutorial for other beat making software but for now this is a tutorial for this program.
With the software installed on your PC or Mac, open it and follow these steps on how to make hip hop beats. When it's running, draw 2 bars with the pencil tool.
To do this, click on the pencil tool, then click and hold the first bar as you drag the mouse across to the other side to create another bar. This beat will use the fixed tempo set to 104.0 so you have to make sure it is so set.
You need the cursor next to the pencil tool. Click on the 2 bars that you have created. When you have highlighted the 2 bars, click on edit. A new screen will open with lots of squares on the DubTurbo interface. Now you can choose the patch you will use. In the patched section scroll down and select the Hip Hop1 beat. Grab the pencil tool so you can start drawing beats in.
Click the very first box to the left hand side of the grid, the so-called Kick1. This is your first hip hop beat.
Skip a line of squares. Click on HiHat1 square. On the next line, click on the Kick1 square. After that line, add 2 squares - one in the snare box and one in the Clap box.
Skip another line again and then add a Kick2 and a HiHat1. Now miss two lines and then add a Kick2. On the following line, add a Kick1 and a HiHat1. Skip a line and add a snare. Add a HiHat1 after skipping another line. On the next line add a HiHat1 and a Kick2. For the remaining bars copy all that again.
Now when you hit the play button you will hear a simple yet very cool sounding hip hop beat where you can loop and maybe add some vocals to.
