Deadfall Trail Is A Very Good Movie Well Worth Seeing

By Daniel Gilbert

Starring an impressing cast of young budding actors, Deadfall Trail is one of the year's best psychodrama/horror movie that moviegoers have been impatiently waiting for Hollywood to deliver. However, this is an independent movie, not a Hollywood creation. It was directed by Roze, and stars Shane Dean, Slade Hall, and Cavin Gray Schneider in the lead roles.

Along with directing the film, Roze also co-wrote and produced this movie. The film is eerily similar to the hit movie Deliverance. The amount of violence, profanity, graphic images, and nudity all make this film worthy of its R-rating.

In the beginning of the movie, the three main characters, John, Julian, and Paul start off on a three week survival adventure in the Kaibab National Forest in Arizona. This trip is definitely not about having fun or filled with any luxuries. The requirements are that each boy only brings a hunting knife, one bottle of water to drink, and a single plastic garbage bag. The survival of each individual will solely be determined by their ability to live off of the land and their environment, their strength, their instincts, and their wits.

The personalities of the three young men immediately emerge at the beginning of the trip which is the beginning of the movie. Paul has never experienced anything like this and is the most inexperienced of the group. Julian is bothered by this. He has done similar trips with John and the idea of a new person on the trip does not appeal to him. John has done hikes and survival trips before and begins to show signs of being the leader of the group. He is confident that both of his friends will be able to handle the tasks set forth.

There is nothing out of the ordinary about the beginning of the trip. Everything is going just as planned. Paul is very inexperienced but it is his supreme confidence in his own abilities that leads the group into some tough situations. Thankfully, these little situations are not something that the boys cannot take care of or get out of. Still, Julian continues to be irritated and angered by Paul's presence on the survival trip. John is the only one who can keep the two of them apart and keep everyone from losing focus.

The main reason Paul even agreed to a three week survival trip in the Arizona desert is the he was promised that they would indulge in peyote, a small cactus like plant that acts as a psychedelic drug. Despite only having a single bottle of water and being dissuaded by his friends, Paul only wants the peyote and does not care about his friends' warnings.

This would not be a horror flick if everything went totally fine. Of course, crazy bad things start to happen to the boys after they take the peyote. The film really begins to pick up the intensity and pace as the characters begin to capture the audience's attention. This film will have views wondering if any of the three boys will survive the strange adventure and if so, who it will be.

Deadfall Trail is a pretty good movie. It may never me the criteria to be considered one of Hollywood's great horror movie classics. However, it is a well written and intriguing film. The acting is up to par and the characters are well developed. It is a movie that teenage boys and young adult males will definitely enjoy. It is entertaining and perfect for movie night.
